Pigpen - RIP

Ron "Pigpen" McKernan left this earth 33 years ago today. As I write this, I'm listening to the 3/24/71 show which has classic versions of Hard To Handle and Next Time You See Me.

Pigpen was a bluesman to the core, he lived hard, and was the heart and soul of the Grateful Dead even for years after he passed away. It makes me think that it's a real shame that he has never been, and probably never will be, respected for the great showman that he was, at least outside of the Dead community. As his tombstone says though, "Pigpen Was And Is Now Forever One Of The Grateful Dead". And he will be in the hearts and souls of Deadheads now and forever too.
